A procedure to fabricate bone glue bonded particle boards was developed within the diploma thesis. The transverse tensile strength and modulus of rupture as well as the moisture expansion behaviour of the particle boards was evaluated. One problem that occurred was that the particles were wet due to the application of adhesive and consequently non bonds could develop during pressing. The solution for the problem works like the following. One has to use the thermoplastic properties of bone glue in its full capacity by drying the particles after the glue application. Then the particles have to be pressed under a temperature of 150°C. As a consequence of the high temperature the already cured bone glue plasticized and the particles stuck together. Only after the cooling under the Sol-Gel-transition-temperature the whole stability of the bone glue was achieved. Four of five samples met the standard requirements for transverse tensile strength. The modulus of rupture demanded by the standard could only be reached by one particle board. Although bone glue is not stable against moisture those samples that demonstrate a good behaviour against moisture also offer good values of stability.
