Abstract:
This thesis is a student approach to 3d numerical simulation of a shallow urban tunnel advanced according to the principles of NATM (New Austrian Tunnelling Method) in side galleries. Emphasis is placed on the evaluation of the effectiveness of horizontal face support by GFK -dowels. This method of reinforcing the tunnel face aims at reducing the stress relieve prior to installation of support. Confining the stress relieve manifesting as deformation is of particular importance for shallow urban tunnels in order to reduce the risk of structural damage to existing infrastructure. A 50m section of the Lainzer tunnel Lt_31 is used to test the new face support method for the first time in an Austrian tunneling project. This thesis highlights the influence of excavation and support installation method on the developing longitudinal and transverse subsidence trough. The calculated deformation profiles are then compared to the measurements form construction site.
