The soybean belongs to the family of the legumes, which have the abilitity to fix dinitrogen. Responsible for this is a symbiosis with Gram-negative bacteria, the so called Rhizobia. The aim of this work was to investigate some phenotypical effects of the symbiosis. In the center of the investigations were the leaves, in fact the chlorophyll-content, the leaf-colour and the leaf-size. The investigations were made with nondestructive methods, for example the Hydro N-Tester (chlorophyll-content) and the Image-analysis (leaf colour, leaf-size). Nodulated, nonnodulated and heterozygous genotypes were investigated in three different experiments. At the time of investigations in mid-September the nodulated genotypes showed the highest chlorophyll-content as expected. No differences in leaf-colour between nodulation-variants were found by Image-Analysis in September, but on the other hand significant differences in leaf-colour were found with a leaf-colour rating. The following investigations in October showed not any significant differences between nodulation-variants in chlorophyll content, which could had been an effect of low temperatures in the prefield of the investigations. However the genotypes differed significant in the data of leaf-colour at the investigations in October.
