Abstract:
After a short introduction into the different construction methods of wooden houses, the different requirements of so called “prefabricated houses” are given. The utilisation of the term “added value” is wide spread, and that’s why added value will be explained more detailed – both from a macro- and a micro economical point of view. This is followed by an explanation why added value can be used for the economic specification of an economic sector. By the help of the “Bilanzbranchenbild” of the Austrian Institute for SME Research the added value of the Austrian prefabricated houses manufacturers can be presented. These relative data are confronted with data from companies, which were inquired by the author by means of a questionnaire. Furthermore an overview of the general wood consumption of the construction industry is given. After that the usability of wood in prefabricated houses are discussed. A model house is created, which represents the Austrian prefabricated houses in terms of wood consumption. So it will be possible, to estimate the wood consumption of all Austrian prefabricated houses By means of both the theoretical and the empirical part of this thesis the added value and the wood consumption of the Austrian prefabricated houses manufacturers are estimated. In addition to that these data are representing the prefabricated houses manufacturers in Lower Austria.
