The focus on the objectives of this work is the implementation of productivity studies in a program to estimate productivity in timber harvesting. Productivity models can help to find the best suited machines and the best harvesting system, if it is possible to compare the results from the different production systems. It has been tried to summarize the very large number of national and international productivity models for timber harvesting and to implement these models in a practical application. This collection formed the basis for a model selection to 13 main harvesting systems in cut-to-length, tree-length and whole–tree methods. The subsequent implementation of these models into a computer application (harvestPRO) has succeeded in a database with a user-friendly interface. Model borders and validity areas are fixed in the program, whereby false estimations of productivity can be denied. The input of the model variables (such as tree volume, slope, technology factor, etc.) provide the system-efficiency and system-productivity for the processes of these harvesting systems.
