In this thesis the impact of different seed mixtures and different reseeding techniques on dry matter yield and on forage quality has been investigated. Additionally the effects of natural self- seeding of grassland were considered on two different sites. In the three cut systems the natural self- seeding system was implemented as an alternative method of grassland renewing. In the year of natural self- seeding the plots were just cut twice to ensure ripening and seeding of plants. The seeds yielded by natural seeding have been identified on species level and additionally the germination capacity of the seeds was determined. Another focus was given on the amount of seeds which became lost during the time of ripening and during the harvest procedure. The results clearly intecated that natural self- seeding of grassland can be used as an alternative method of grasland improvement. This thesis showed some significant differences within the used reseeding techniques and within the different seed mixtures. The impact of the experiment factors year, seed mixture and reseeding technique on dry matter yield and forage quality was not consistent within the different cutting regime and sites. Nevertheless, grassland renewing is to bee seen as an important part of grassland management, but its success is strongly depending on the given site an weather conditions.
