Mission Statement

Top quality food is a basic need of vital relevance to humans. The department of Food Science and Technology contributes significantly to top quality and safe food supply to the population by means of research and teaching in a national and international context. Research focuses in particular on specific needs of people living in Austria and Central Europe. Besides provision of profound knowledge, teaching educates students for transdisciplinary, critical and ethically responsible thinking.

The Institute of Food Sciences represented by its complementarily cooperating laboratories provides efficient contributions to the above mentioned strategy of the department.
