Forschungsschwerpunkt
Die Häm-Biosynthese ist für fast alle lebenden Organismen unerlässlich. Viele Krankheitserreger nutzen den "Coproporhyrin-abhängigen" Häm-Biosyntheseweg, der 2015 entdeckt wurde.
Wir untersuchen die Biochemie von Enzymen, die an der prokaryotischen Häm-Biosynthese beteiligt sind, um die Struktur-Funktions-Beziehungen zu verstehen, mit dem Ziel, den Reaktionsmechanismus der einzelnen Enzyme und ihre Protein-Protein-Interaktionen zu entschlüsseln.
Diese grundlegenden Forschungsfragen, mit denen wir uns befassen, ebnen den Weg zur Suche nach neuen antibiotischen Substanzen, die angesichts des Auftretens zahlreicher Superbugs, die mehrfache Resistenzen gegen gängige Antibiotikabehandlungen aufweisen, dringend benötigt werden.
