Research Focus

The research focus lies in the field of circular economy in the built environment, particularly in the assessment and reuse of existing building components. The main focus is on how structural components from existing buildings can be systematically recorded, evaluated in terms of their condition, and made available for potential reuse.

A particular emphasis is placed on digital and data-driven methods for component detection, condition assessment, and service life estimation. This includes linking building data, material properties, degradation mechanisms, and non-destructive or minimally invasive testing methods. The aim is to contribute to the development of standardized assessment procedures that enable the reliable reuse of building components and thereby support resource conservation and the reduction of environmental impacts in the construction sector.
