Research Focus
My research and teaching focus on sustainable spatial and landscape development, regional and spatial transformation processes toward sustainability, and their governance, participation, and transdisciplinarity. I am particularly interested in agents of change (from universities and municipalities to individuals) and the question of how they implement change under certain institutional conditions, build governance capacities, and establish novel practices. Another focus of my research is the extent to which we can support such agents in the co-creation and implementation of new solutions through transdisciplinary research approaches. Current research topics include climate change adaptation, governance, land use conflicts (climate protection - biodiversity), nature-based solutions and ecosystem services in planning, transdisciplinary and participatory methods (e.g., living labs, scenarios).
