Abstract
The project's objective targets are the accurate measurement of spectral UV radiation and total ozone at Hoher Sonnblick as well as the measurement of spectrally resolved UV irradiance in Groß-Enzersdorf in the vicinity of Vienna. The acquired data are a vital basis for dealing with the following questionings: Estimation of long-term variability of biologically effective UV radiation and total ozone, contributions of various influencing factors to variability of spectral UV in the past and future, assessment of long-term effects of raised biologically effective UV radiation levels on ecosystems in Austria. The continuous measurements have been carried out with the Brewer Spectrophotometer and Bentham Spectroradiometer (NDACC affiliated). The Brewer spectrophotometer provides total ozone column and vertical profiles, solar spectral UV, aerosol optical depth, NO2 and S02 column at Hoher Sonnblick since 1994 as one of the longest European time series. The integration of these measurement systems in regional and global networks in order to harmonise operations, develop approaches and deal with the prevailing scientific questions is of the great interest.
