EU-Citizen.Science: the Platform for Sharing, Initiating, and Learning Citizen Science in Europe
Abstract
The scope of this project is to create a European-wide citizen science Mutual Learning Space aimed at bringing together citizen science projects, networks and initiatives, as well as all stakeholders who can benefit from it. To do so, the project consortium will work at different levels, focusing for example on the community building and engagement, providing coordination between citizen science initiatives at local, national and European level (e.g. SwafS citizen science projects and beyond). It will also create a framework of reference for citizen science, with highly qualified expert organizations in the field, reflecting together on defining what is to be considered good practice in citizens science, roadmaps, etc. In the meantime, the consolidation of the expertise and stakeholder groups involved will pave the way to the development of participatory processes aimed at raising awareness of citizen science among the general public (including students and life-long learners), the feeling of ownership of policies but also a concrete impact on local and national governance processes. These activities will take place all over Europe. The frameworking, community building and participatory processes will lead to the selection of best practices, and the creation of training modules aimed at citizens scientist as well as researchers, which will be delivered in several European member states. All processes, definitions and materials will be documented and openly made available on the project platform. By the end of the project the EU-Citizen.Science will be the reference gateway to citizen science in Europe, reaching out to a vast community and providing valuable resources.
