Investigations of forest avalanches in the North-Eastern Alps.

The purpose of this study is to carry out basic investigations to develop an afforestation concept for the upper reach area of the Steyr-river. On the basis of extensive topographic surveys (silviculture, snow-mechanics, avalanche dynamics) the analysis of the parameters, the comparison of the results with already existing experiences and analysis with Geographical Information Systems, area specific parameters responsible for the formation of forest avalanches should be found and prepared in a way to be used for hazard zoning.
