Timber Network
Abstract
The goal of the project is the optimisation of logistic flows along the wood value stream, in the sense of an integral approach representing the entire production chain as well as the mobilisation of timber reserves in the Austrian small-scale forest. In the first phase of the project national and international models are analysed sector independently and their feasibility is being evaluated. In the second phase a process analysis and a activity-based costing within forestry and transportation enterprises as well as saw mill and paper industry is performed to enable a precise picture of the state of the art. The conducted monitoring within the process analysis is taken place by quantitative and qualitative parameters and will deal in particular with core processes in the supply chain and its interface. The content of the process analysis will be parameters of costs, stock, and stream, transport studies as well as information and communication systems. The following process optimisation should be realised in a target model within the final project phase under inclusion of results of the first project phase including partner enterprises. Permanent process controlling and perpetual adaptation of the model should generate a transferable solution for the entire value stream by means of benchmarking processes and should quantify expected improvements.
