Abstract
Aim of the project is the develoment of decision support systems for forest biomass utilization in the Northern Calcareous Alps based upon site maps, site specific growth models, carbon and nutrient balance models for a selected test region in high resolution. Site specific yield models will be developed to estimate productivity for whole biomass. In combination with nutrient balance models, including the estimates of weathering rates, atmospheric input, recycling of wood ash, and fertilization, the sustainability of forest functions should be ensured. Based upon test results, a concept for long-term experiments on the effects of different treatments on regeneration, growth, carbon and nutrient dynamics as a basis for adaptive management is planned. The cooperation with forest authorities in Tyrol will ensure the of the results in site-specificmanagement guidelines.
