Abstract
The allergic plant common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L.) was introduced to Europe in the middle of the 19th century. It started to spread massively in Austria since 20 years, first by agriculture, during the last decade along the highways. Bird feed seems to be of lower relevancy for further spread but more important are mowers used for managing the vegetation along roadsides by road maintainance services and agricultural machines (harvesters and reapers). Both are relevant vectors for ragweed spread carrying hundrets and thousands of seeds. Cutting experiments shall clarify the importance of dates (phenological developmental stage).
