Multilateral Cooperation Project Austrian - Central Asian Research and Training Centre for Forest Sciences
Abstract
Forest education, training and research in the Kyrgyz Republic has to take into account the current demands in natural resource management. There is a common understanding that new actions have to contribute to: - Improved understanding of the current political, economic and social changes as consequences of the collapse of the authoritarian state-centred socialist system - Improved understanding of the implications of increased pressures by human activities and the opportunities to adapt natural resource management - Increased capacities to adopt participatory processes and collaborative planning approaches - Use of modern information and communication technologies to support planning and decision making - Adoption of new approaches in forest management planning by combining models, techniques and methods in an integrative way Therefore the Leading partners of this project have agreed to collaborate in research and training and facilitate this process. As part of this collaboration the Austrian - Central Asian Research and Training Centre for Forest Sciences should be established. The mission of the center is to offer high level educational and research opportunities in the field of forestry and environment related applications. The Austrian - Central Asian Research and Training Centre for Forest Sciences will be hosted at Kyrgyz National Agrarian University and will serve as a link between Austria and Central Asia playing a proactive role in promoting public awareness and operational capabilities in Central Asia.
