PROVIding smart DElivery of public goods by EU agriculture and forestry
Abstract
The general objective of the project is to provide evidence and tools to support an increased sustainability of primary production though the "smart" production of public goods. The practical result of the project will be the development of an evolving framework and toolbox consistently putting together an inventory/mapping of options, practicable evaluation and valorisation means, and policy/sector mechanisms, suitable to be developed over time beyond the lifetime of the project. The project will achieve this objective, first through a tentative mapping and inventory of public goods and mechanism producing such goods, in order to identify gaps in the production of public goods and priority areas for policy development; then it will develop improved methods to support policy design and will use these methods to evaluate a set of innovative policy tools to meet a smart production of public goods, consistent with the current needs of productivity, bioeconomy strategy and rural development. The framework and toolbox will be co-developed through the project activities and a wide range of stakeholders. The project will address both agriculture and forestry and, where relevant, the connection between the two, and consider the widest possible range of public goods. It will address the issue in a multi-scale framework, including enterprise, functional area (e.g. catchment), programming level (e.g. CAP RDP), EU.
