INTER-UNIVERSITY TRAINING PROGRAMME “SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS & AQUATIC RESOURCES”
Abstract
Appreciating the European integration process in higher education and research, BOKU (IHG) and USB (FFPW) have designed a collaborative educational project which is cost-effective and providing mutual benefits to both institutions and its students. The inter-university exchange project combines the complementing expertise of the partner institutions and significant value is added for both institutions and its students. BOKU (IHG) is providing expertise on assessment & monitoring of the ecological integrity of freshwater ecosystems, conservation of freshwater biota & habitats, restauration of riverine landscapes, environmental planning & modelling, environmental impact assessment, limnology, taxonomy and ecology of freshwater organisms. USB (FFPW) is providing expertise on aquaculture, fisheries, environmental chemistry and biochemistry. The project is anchored on existing Master’s programmes at BOKU and USB (FFPW), focusing on the thematic areas of conservation/restoration of riverine ecosystems, environmental impacts on freshwater ecosystems and aquaculture & fisheries. The project activities comprise of three components: (1) Exchange of Master’s/Ph.D. students, (2) implementation of thematically complementary tailor-made field-courses/seminars and (3) carrying-out workshops to monitor/evaluate the project activities and to develop joint programmes of BOKU and USB. The inter-university exchange project combines the complementing expertise of the partner institutions and unique research infrastructure of both institutions is made accessible to students and research staff of both institutions. Anticipated is the development of innovative joint research; cConsequently, the project is supporting the partner universities in its triple function as provider of educational, research-related and societal services.
