Side stream treatment with deammonification for small and medium municipal wastewater treatment plants
Abstract
Deammonification as sidestream treatment of centrates from dewatered digested sludge is state of the art at several wastewater treatment plants in Austria to increase the energy efficiency. However, due to process comlexity and high operational efforts the application of this technologie large scale is still limited to large scale plants with sufficient capacities. The aim of the project is to enlarge the applicabiltiy also for medium scale plants down to a size of 10000-20000 PE with anaerobic digestors. Therefore, a compact system with enhanced control and optimized reactor design shall be developed. Further, GHG emissions (nitrous oxides) shall be limited to allow a neutreul carbon footprint of the technology.
