Abstract
Formation of 3D lignin bodies. The project aims at exploring different ways to convert lignin into stable three-dimensional bodies of different low densities. The shaping is done by foaming, extrusion or melting. Foams and aerogels are well-known and established in the realm of silica and cellulose. Applications are manifold in heat, sound and impact insulation. Lignin offers, just from the viewpoint of its structure, very suitable structures to form three-dimensional solid networks of sufficient mechanical stability.
