Public Space and Social Cohesion (Explorative Study)
Abstract
Changes in society show different demands for public spaces. The latest stream of refugees into Austria confronted the population, adminsitration and government with an augmented diversity and a lack of knowledge about the refugees (Buber-Ennser et al., 2016). There is a equvalent gap of insight about the use of public spaces by asylum seekers and aknowledged refugees; this is crucial as public space holds a key function for social cohesion and integration (Dangschat, 2000). It is important to explore the impact on public spaces by different uses and users around homes of asylum seekers and adress conflicts as well as potentials. The study will contain qualitative interviews on site to deliver criteria for situating homes and isntitutions for primary help.
