Simulation of the potential natural vegetation (PNV) of Austrias forests. Evaluation of a forest succession model.
Abstract
A forest succession model of the patch - model type (represented by PICUS version 1.2) is employed to simulate the potential natural vegetation (PNV) at sample plots of the Austrian Forest Soil Survey. Model output is compared with expert judgements of PNV. Objective of the study is, to evaluate the ability of patch models to generate plausible species compositions along complex ecological gradients based on available landscape ecological data and climate data which are extrapolated from base stations.
