Regional analysis of river low flows in Upper Austria
Abstract
The research project "Regional analysis of river low flows in Upper Austria" includes methodical aspects towards a land-wide charactarization of low flow discharges. Incorporating results from the former project "Statistical expert tools for low flow hydrology", low flow characteristics (eg. specific low flow discharge q95) are calculated for gauged sites and estimated for ungauged sites. For this estimation, we present a process-based statistical regionalization model based on the relationship between low flow characteristics and catchment characteristics. Different low flow related processes, such as seasonality or the effect of lakes, are introduced in the model by natural factors related to processes. The value of short discharge series for the regionalization is examined. One result of this study consists of a preliminary map of specific low flow discharges q95 in Upper Austria.
