CEX - Development of a competitive exclusion product for poultry meeting the regulatory requirements in the EU
Abstract
Restricted use of feed antibiotics and the foreseeable total ban within the near future demands for alternatives. In order to avoid increased infections with Salmonella and Campylobacter in the production of chickens and the carry over of these pathogens to humans alternatives have to be developed. Competitive Exclusion (C-EX) is a promising method to protect chicks from infections with pathogenic bacteria. The project focuses on the development of a defined CE-product, which in contrast to non-defined products available in non-European markets meets the requirements for registration in the European Union. Companies involved in production aim to improve their skills and to develop new processes. Additionally the development and validation of diagnostic test kits will help to establish and control new quality concepts.
