Characterisation of the microbial community during the degradation of vegetable oil in the soil
Abstract
The aim of the subproject is, to characterize the soil microbial community and its activity during the degradation of vegetable oil. A 13C natural-abundance-experiment will be conducted, where the incorporation of vegetable oil derived carbon into phospholipid fatty acids will be observed over time. Conclusions concerning the active microorganisms will be drawn with the help of the PLFA pattern of the soil and the 13C signature. Further, the ability of the microbial population to adapt to repeated vegetable oil application will be monitored. Finally, the connection of vegetable oil and the ability of the soil organisms to degrade PAKs will be explored by using 13C marked PAKs.
