Soil microbiological evaluation of the application of Branntkalk as a procedure for melioration of compacted soils
Abstract
During the course of a 3-month glasshouse incubation experiment we will evaluate the application of quicklime for melioration of soils and its effects on soil microbiology. As controls, untreated soil and soil treated with calcium carbonate (to keep track of the pure effect of pH) will be analyzed. Sampling will take place at the beginning of the application, after one month and after 3 months. The microbial activity is determined via enzyme activities such as cellulase, chitinase, protease, peroxidase, phenol oxidase and phosphatase activity. The microbial community structure will be determined via phospholipid fatty acid analysis. In addition, microbial carbon and nitrogen as well as the concentrations of ammonium and nitrate will be monitored. All microbiological parameters will be analysed in two different soil depths.
