- Abstract
- Among all grain constituents, starch plays a key role in corn and wheat. In contrast, soybean contains sufficient amounts of all the essential amino acids required by the body for growth and maintenance of lean muscle tissue. Hydrothermic processing has been used in compound fed production for broilers to improve nutrient availability, feed hygiene and inactivation of anti-nutritive factors. Focusing on nutrients and metabolizable energy (ME) in compound feeds for broilers, during expander processing, the combination of shearing, temperature and pressure creates many opportunities for molecular changes in carbohydrates, proteins and lipids.
Objectives:
1) Establish the relationship between feed processing parameters with expander and animal performance parameters
2) Adjust the processing line to obtain comparable pellet quality, however with variable animal performance among treatments
