Perception and Reality of User Conflicts in the UNESCO Wienerwald Biosphere Reserve
Abstract
Due to different activities and interests, which take place in the Wienerwald Biosphere Reserve, a high conflict potential exists. Interaction between different user groups and interests provide a key challenge to recreation managers as the interactions often lead to conflicts. Therefor this study aimed in a systematic analysis of conflicts between recreationists in the Wienerwald Biosphere Reserve based on observations and surveys. The study will provide detailed information about types and sources of conflicts which exist in a heavily used recreational area. Based on these findings, recommendations for the management of the Wienerwald Biosphere Reserve and guidelines for other Biosphere Reserves, how to evaluate conflicts, will be derived.
