Effects of sivicultural techniques on the water-balance and the element-dynamics in characteristic stands (silvicultural treatments) of the watershed protection forests of the city of Vienna.
Abstract
Interactions between silvicultural treatment methods and water balance and water quality are investigated. The field of research is the western slope of the 'Rax' in the Northeastern Limestone Alps of Austria. In the montane level a natural grown and mixed spruce-fir-beech-forest, a spruce-monoculture in pole-stand-age, and a clearcut-area in the alpine level an alpine-pasture zone and a dwarfe-pine-shrubforest are investigated. As fundamentals for the comparing inquiries there are collected data of precipitation, throughfall-precipitation, stemflow (for beech), windspeed within the stands and above the crowns, air-temperature, global radiation, atmospheric humidity, soil-temperature, snow-dynamics, element-contents of the soil water, element-contents of the precipitation and the throughfall-water and data from litter-dynamics.
