Optimisation of wood chip supply
Abstract
Producing electricity and heat from renewable resources will require a larger amount of energy wood in the future. As major source wood of poor quality, harvesting residues and wood from thinning, wood from coppicing and short rotation plantations has to be considered. Technical and logistic improvements in harvesting, chipping and transportation are key factors for efficient fuel supply systems, what represents a difficult challenge. Based on work studies (time studies on the one hand, and machine records on the other hand) and statistical analysis productivity models will be developed. These models allow an analysis of the work flow, prediction of productivity and can be used for cost calculations. Single machines are examined (e.g. Moipu 300 ES, Silvatec and others), but also the production system as a whole. The results are evaluations of machines on the one hand, and production systems on the other hand. Via product cost accounting it is possible to fulfill value chain analysis and comparisons.
