Botanical macroremains from Bronze Age and Roman wells in Styria
Abstract
During extended archaeological investigations along the new Koralm-railway a set of prehistoric well structures was discovered and excavated, one of the structures was cut out as a whole. The sediment layers of four of these wells dating from the Bronze Age and the Roman period will be subject to archaeobotanical analysis. The excellent preservation of the waterlogged macroremains will provide comprehensive information on vegetation history, settlement patterns and early agriculture in southern Styria.
