River Protection Plan "Unser Inn" - assessing and defining the ecological sensitivity of watercourses
Abstract
The project aims to provide a differentiated assessment of ecologically sensitive river sections within the catchment of the Tyrolean Inn. The selection of assessment criteria is based on the ecological criteria proposed by the Austrian Water Catalogue. The evaluation of river stretches builds on a method developed during the case study “Application and analyses of ecological criteria for prioritizing river protection measures at Austrian rivers”, which resulted in a classification of the ecological sensitivity of river segments within the sphere of influence of planned hydropower plants. This method will be adapted for evaluating an entire river network. A section-based assessment of all rivers under investigation will be carried out, following the classification and weighting of the criteria. In order to take the existing water management framework plan into account, comparative analyses of the results will be conducted.
