Synergy oriented development of utilization scenarios for photovoltaic plants on large scale parking slots based on analyzed theoretical photovoltaic potentials in Austrian settlement areas
Abstract
This project is going to identify large public and private parking spaces suitable for photovoltaic energy production. Furthermore the project is calculating the theoretical photovoltaic energy potential in settlement areas regarding the identified parking spaces (Dreier 2000). The results will support Austrian photovoltaic industry (production, planning and realization) to greater market penetration regarding photovoltaic usage in urban and suburban parking spaces, and will visualize the contribution of photovoltaic to the sustainable energy turnaround. Due to the multilevel use of parking spaces for energy production and for low level parking usage, synergy effects on traditionally competing usages can be identified. Multilevel use can contribute to reduce soil sealing, which is especially in Austria and the European Union an evident challenge (Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung et al. 2015). Moreover an added value can be created for users (e. g. additional comfort through shadow effect) and the administration (e. g. maintenance cost benefits, additional income through energy production, innovative services), which can help to higher acceptance for open space photovoltaic use in settlement areas. Results will lead to awareness rising effects at decision makers level (public administrations and private enterprises), which will support the photovoltaic branch in a long term view and will also create additional workplaces.
