- Abstract
- The big cities are currently responsible for 80 % of global CO2 emissions. The global forecast results show that in 2050, two thirds of all people are going to live in cities. In order to maintain the life quality in cities of the future, we need multi-functional system solutions which can gain energy, save heating and cooling energy, bind dust, increase air quality, reduce noise, and also counteract the problems such as heat islands and CO2 capturing floods.
As part of this project, there will be different building-greening systems and plant/substrate types, combined with various PV modules, examined on a Vienna school. Their influences on the hygrothermal behaviour of the building, energy-saving potential, humidity, shading, noise, reduction, water retention and the heat island effect are going to be scientifically explained. A particularly positive effect in this project is going to be achieved by students´ participation as the "city dwellers of the future“.
