3d-wood
Abstract
In the field of printing technologies radical innovations have been observed during the last decades (copy machine, matrix printer, laser printer, etc.). Radical innovations and industrial applications of new technologies in this field are expected also in future. Several years ago 3d printing was introduced in the market. However, commercial use and industrial application of 3d printing have been established during the last three years because of increasing computing capacities and higher printing speed. Up to now, 3d printing is not fast enough for industrial applications. Therefore, 3d printing is mainly used for prototyping and special applications. However, decreasing production costs and increasing printing speed is expected for the future which make 3d printing possibly competitive to plastic technologies as extrusion and ejection moulding. In the medium term it is assumed that 3d printing can be used as an additive production technology in wood working industry which allows new production concepts and designs.
