Downstream fish passage and fish protection in Austrian rivers
Abstract
The project aims at broadening the knowledge in regard of fish downstream migration at lateral barriers, especially hydropower plants. The focus is set towards the development of (fish-)ecological and technical fundamentals that assess the effects of downstream migration on the waterbody specific fishspecies and –populations. The necessities of effective measures shall be evaluated under consideration of temporal effects. The project does not aim at producing a decidedly state of the art or legislative standards at this point. Possible solutions for Austrian rivers and small to medium scale hydropower plants shall be investigated through three case studies in different river regions/ fish zones.
