Street Runoff Solutions for Vegetation and Urban Drainage Systems
Abstract
Heavy rainfall may lead to flooding of sewers in urban areas which causes damage of persons and buildings. As inner city sewers are mainly confined to existing dimensions and designed to restricted rain intensities along with climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies are needed to be implemented. Green infrastructures for rainwater management are seen as promising opportunity in that context. Apparently there is a need to consider different frames and conflicts of interest. Strong impact is coming from e.g. salt use in winter and different other pollutants like heavy metals which are washed from streets and other surfaces depending on various influencing factors. Urban rainwater management consists of various challenges which have to be solved in an interdisciplinary approach under the guidance of our university.
