Analyses of the ecologigal sensitivity and protection need of rivers, and evaluation of the hydro-electric potential considering ecological aspects (catchments: Isel, Salzach, Carinthian Drava)
Abstract
The aim of the project is the analysis of the ecological sensitivity of river stretches (> 10km²) and the identification of protection needs, with respect to anthropogenic - in particular hydropower - use. The evaluation of protection needs is based on the ecological criteria proposed by the Austrian Water Catalogue (BMLFUW-UW.4.1.2 / 0004-I / 4/2012). After determining protection needs, comparative analyses regarding the energy-economic potential as well as planned river uses (esp. flood protection plans and hydropower projects) will be carried out. Taking into account the ecological and legislative conditions within the investigated catchments, methods developed during the project "River Protection Plan 'Unser Inn' - assessing and defining the ecological sensitivity of watercourses" will be largely adopted.
