Monitoring changes in farmland bird populations and habitat characteristics in Vienna
Abstract
Within the last 10 years, populations of characteristic farmland birds showed a significant negative trend. Intensification of land use, applications of pesticides and the use of chemical fertilizers have caused the loss of biodiversity. In addition, suitable habitats for farmland birds get lost due to land sealing (housing, infrastructure). Within the project, farmland birds will be monitored in Vienna. In addition, information on land use and habitats will be obtained througout the breeding season, to analyse how changes in the arable land affect farmland birds.
