Analysis of biological methods of the ecological status assessment for macrozoobenthos in the European intercalibration river types of the Pannonian ecoregion in Croatia
Abstract
The study deals with the investigation of the ecological status of selected Croatian streams in the Pannonian ecoregion based on the biological quality element macrozoobenthos (by Multi-Habitat-Sampling). The site selection is carried out in consultation with representatives of the University of Zagreb. The samples are subjected to a full taxonomic analysis according to the Operational Taxalist Croatia; the processing of the macroinvertebrates is done by specialists of the AG Benthic ecology (BOKU). The survey aims to assess the influence of environmental factors and anthropogenic stressors on the macrozoobenthos community. As the Ecoregion 11 - Hungarian plains - covers both Austria and Croatia the data can be comparatively analysed which will add informations on distributional patterns of specific aquatic communities. From a scientific point of view the project tangles essential issues regarding a pan-european intercalibration of a harmonised ecological water quality assessment.
