Ecological characterisation of the freshwater fauna and flora of Germany
Abstract
Ecological characteristics of the freshwater fauna and flora form the base for the ecological status assessment according to the EU WFD. Standard publications, e.g. Schmedtje and Colling (1996): "Ökologische Typisierung der aquatischen Makrofauna" or the "Fauna Aquactica Austriaca (Moog, Ed., 1995) were developed long before the WFD implmentation, but are still the basis of our assessment systems. The goal of this project is to revise and extend such standard publications, including all biological quality elements of the WFD and to include the new data in the freshwaterecology.info database.
