Chemistry of novel, environmentally benign textile treatments
Abstract
This ABCT subproject deals with modern textile bleaching technology. The main focus is on elucidation of the chemical reaction mechanisms in novel, environmentally benign bleaching systems for jeans (denim) fabrics. The degradation products of indigo and other dyes will be identified, while at the same time studying the effects on cellulose integrity (chain degradation, oxidation). Another topic is the yellowing and aging behavior of the bleached textiles, in particular the identification of the chromophores generated.
