Cellulose-fabrics for fibre-reinforced wood composites
Abstract
Natural fibre composites present a sustainable alternative to glass fibre composites. However, natural fibre composites suffer from inferior mechanical performance compared to glass fibre due to high inherent variability of fibre properties. The aim of the present project is therefore to overcome this limitation by the use of regenerated cellulose (viscose fibres), whose properties can be varied over a wide range. Viscose fibre reinforced wood composites are prepared and characterised and possible fields of application for this type of composite material are evaluated.
