Abstract
Analytical methods for the determination of fibre constituents in feed do not reflect the same groups of substances and also represent partially overlapping results. For example, measurements of crude fiber or detergent fiber (NDF/ADF) do not take into account the proportion of pectin or oligosaccharides. However, these are attributed to the fiber components by definition, since they cannot be broken down by the body's own enzymes, but are partially fermented by microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract. This misjudgment of fiber constituents can be reduced by method evaluation. In addition, physico-chemical properties such as buffer capacity (LBR) and water binding capacity (HC) of these fiber components play an important role during passage in the gastrointestinal tract.
