Wire worm monitoring 2019-2020
Abstract
Species-specific models for predicting wireworm activity in the upper soil layer and the flight times of adult beetles would be important future elements for the plant protection warning service. It is also of fundamental importance for the optimal use of the measures that farmers have as precise a knowledge as possible of the distribution of the important wireworm pest species in Austria, since the vertical migration movements of the wireworms and the flight times of the adult beetles are species-specific and, for example, preparations with entomopathogenic fungi only work efficiently against certain species. On the basis of field observations and model applications, the wireworm warning system is adapted to practical needs and taught in counselling and adult education.
