Abstract
Camera traps cause little disturbance to wildlife and can be an important instrument for monitoring mammals in sensitive protected areas. In addition to horizontally oriented camera traps for detecting larger mammals, vertically oriented camera traps are used to detect small mammals present at the site. With two paired camera traps each (one vertically and one horizontally oriented), a random sample of the mammal community can be drawn at each site. The objective of the project is to survey the mammal fauna, as well as to draw inference about habitat- and species-specific occurrence probabilities.
