Usage patterns of public transport modes in Vienna and its surroundings
Abstract
Within this project, the researchers want to learn more about the circumstances and motivations of public transport (PT) users in Vienna and the surrounding regions. By choosing different statistical tools, including correlations, covariance analyses and cross-tabulations as well as GIS-based analysis tools, new and additional insights into the behaviour of public transport users as well as obstacles to increased PT use will be acquired. The analysis will focus on the district level by using small-scale raster data combining PT usage with additional information on sociodemographic characteristics and PT infrastructure quality. The overall objective is to derive from these findings new instruments to improve the modal split in Vienna and its surroundings in favour of public transport.
