DECIDE - Decision support for climate adapted protective forest management
Abstract
DECIDE develops and tests a decision-making tool to inform management of protective forests to help ensure climate adaptation. The DECIDE-tool supports decisions in silviculture regarding sustainable and preventive forest management for the preservation and creation of climate-safe forests. An essential pillar is the modeling and forecasting of damage susceptibilities of Austrian forests with special consideration of climate-resilient tree species. Also under this pillar, the project provides a comprehensible visualization of adaptive capacities for sustainable and preventive forest management. The second pillar is the decision tool, which accounts for predisposition assessments and options for forest management. Both pillars are developed for model regions of Styria and Lower Austria, which provide test cases for an Austrian-wide application.
