Evolution of the oxygen concentration in the Dobra reservoir
Abstract
In the Dobra reservoir, as measurements of the oxygen concentration show, there is an annual drop in the O2 concentration in the depth range during the summer months. This is related to the input of oxygen-poor water from the Ottenstein reservoir above and to stable temperature stratification in the reservoir. The processes leading to the reduced oxygen concentration are currently not understood in detail. Therefore, with the help of a conceptual model coupled to a model of the three-dimensional hydrodynamics and temperature stratification of the reservoir, the following research questions will be addressed: - What hydrodynamic processes take place during pumping and turbine operation? - How does the oxygen-depleted water stratify? - What are the effects of possible technical measures to solve the oxygen problem?
